A wooden board with three posts and 8 discs. The aim is to move the discs from one post to another one at a time until you have replicated the tower. This is a difficult puzzle and can initially be started with less discs, or just used for seriation of size.

The puzzle starts with the discs in a neat stack in ascending order of size on one post, the smallest at the top, thus making a conical shape.

The objective of the puzzle is to move the entire stack to another post, obeying the following rules:

Only one disc may be moved at a time.

Each move consists of taking the upper disc from one of the posts and sliding it onto another post, on top of the other discs that may already be present on that post.

No disc may be placed on top of a smaller disc.

With three discs, the puzzle can be solved in seven moves, with 8 discs it takes 255 moves!
