• Control of error: Each word is first encountered on the right-hand page. When the child turns the page, they will see the word again, with any digraphs underlined and an accompanying picture, so they can check they have read the word correctly
• Ten books available as a set or as a single sample, progressing in complexity from simple CVC words, to CVC words with digraphs, to CVCC/CCVC words and beyond.  Image shows 1st, 6th and 10th books as an idea of the progression
• To be used after children can confidently read the pink and blue phonics cards, around the time they are reading the pink level phonic books and beyond 

ELG: Reading: children read and understand simple sentences. They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately. They also read some common irregular words. They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read.

Speaking: children express themselves effectively, showing awareness of listeners’ needs. They use past, present and future forms accurately when talking about events that have happened or are to happen in the future. They develop their own narratives and explanations by connecting ideas or events.
