Read Write Inc. Phonics Book Bag Books are engaging texts to support children with additional reading practice outside the classroom. The books are uniquely matched to the existing Read Write Inc. Phonics Storybooks to reinforce children's learning of phonics at the appropriate level, helping them to make even faster progress in reading.
Features
- 10 Book Bag Books (one of each title) for take home reading, matched to the Green Read Write Inc. Storybooks
- Review of Story Green Words and phonic content from corresponding Read Write Inc. Storybook
- Provides practice for children learning the pink level sounds
- Increased opportunities for reading practice, leading to faster progress
- Image shows 1st, 6th and 10th books as an idea of the progression
- Short so each can be read in one sitting, with repetition and simple phrases. These books offer children a high success experience to improve confidence.
The Storybooks have a text with a strong synthetic phonics structure, but the language is natural and fluent and each story has a clear shape. Humour is a strong feature - children want to read the books again and again. The illustrations, though lively and amusing, are deliberately subtle so do not distract children from the text.
The children's reading text in the colour books is black on pale cream to avoid glare.
Each set in this series is carefully graded so children can proceed with confidence.
This set is mainly pink level words with some blue level words introduced.
The child:
reads some of the phonetic and sight words for the story
reads the story
retells the story using the picture cues and discusses the 'Questions to talk about'
Each book has guidance for the adult, and word lists for extra practice. There are comprehension questions to discuss.
ELG: Reading: children read and understand simple sentences. They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately. They also read some common irregular words. They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read.
Speaking: children express themselves effectively, showing awareness of listeners’ needs. They use past, present and future forms accurately when talking about events that have happened or are to happen in the future. They develop their own narratives and explanations by connecting ideas or events.
