Washing Practical Life Exercises Ideas

Washing activities ideas for the Practical Life area, which can be presented as described below, or to augment your existing activities.  Choose from the available options to create your own activities or follow our recommendations:

Suggestions

1 Cloth washing (simplified)

Cloth washing bowl, wash bowl, bucket, basket  

Scrub the dirty cloths clean, then rinse and wring out ready to be hung up to dry.

2 Cloth washing (advanced)

Washboard, 2 wash bowls, bucket, basket

Scrub the dirty cloths clean, then rinse and wring out ready to be hung up to dry.

3 Cloth drying

Clothes horse, pegs, basket

Peg up newly washed cloths.

4 Dishwashing

Plastic bowl, plastic bucket, dishbrush, dish drainer rack (cloths not included)

Wash the items using clean water in the bowl, dirty water goes into the bucket.  Dry with a clean cloth.

5 Cleaning a shell

Bowl, plastic bucket, nail brush, soap, jug, cloth, tray

Scrub the shell using water in the bowl, dirty water goes into the bucket.  Dry with a clean cloth.

Suggestions for additional items needed: large plastic jug, apron, cloths, sponge cloths, child safe detergent.
