The wooden cut-out numerals 1-10 and 55 red wooden counters are stored in a wooden box with two compartments and a lid.

The numbers 1-10 are laid out in the correct order and the counters counted out and placed in pairs beneath. The child associates the correct number of counters with the numerals. The paired pattern in which the counters are laid out introduces the concept of odd and even and gives a visual memory image of the relative sizes of the numbers.

Helps the child learn to count reliably up to 10 and recognise the numbers.

ELG: Numbers: children count reliably with numbers from 1 to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number.
