A set of Sassoon font painted wooden letters (10 of each blue vowel and 5 of each red consonant) for word building. The box has been specifically designed to allow the full layout of letters when set out side by side, but to take up half the shelf space. The box has a lid.

  • Learning letter sounds: The movable alphabet can be used to help children learn the sounds of letters. Teachers can demonstrate how to pronounce each letter sound and encourage children to practice saying them out loud as they manipulate the letters.
  • Building words: The movable alphabet can be used to help children build words. Teachers can provide children with picture cards or other visual prompts, and encourage them to create the corresponding word using the movable alphabet.
  • Spelling practice: The movable alphabet can be used as a tool for spelling practice. Teachers can dictate words or phrases to children, and ask them to spell out the words using the movable alphabet.

 

ELG: Reading: children read and understand simple sentences. They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately. They also read some common irregular words. They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read.

Writing: children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds. They also write some irregular common words. They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Some words are spelt correctly and others are phonetically plausible.
