11 picture cards, 11 word cards and 11 labelled picture cards for the primary, secondary and tertiary colours and black, white, pink and grey. These cards cover the 11 colours typically studied in Montessori settings (as in colour box 2 or the colouring pencils).

The secondary and tertiary colours as well as pink and grey are shown as the mixture of the two or three colours that make them. This helps children understand the colours they see around them and will encourage them to try mixing paints etc. to make different colours and shades.

The labelled picture cards are presented to the child and the colours are named and any mixtures are explained. Children match the picture cards and then the word cards to the first row of cards. A three period lesson can be given to teach the vocabulary if appropriate.
